Amazon.com's Best of 2001 You needn't see the film of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to appreciate the wonder, magic, and fearful chills of J.K. Rowling's phenomenal bestseller in John Williams's outstanding score. Williams typically avoids the source material for the films he scores, but he reportedly derived great pleasure and inspiration from Rowling's first Harry Potter adventure, and created a perfect motif (fully expressed in "Hedwig's Theme") to dominate his score. It's first heard as a dreamy celesta waltz and embellished through myriad incarnations and moods, often with a sinister edge befitting the darker tones of Chris Columbus's direction. Evident are fantastical allusions to Saint-Saëns and Tchaikovsky (among others), and Williams's epic track is "Quidditch Match," a breathtaking frenzy to accompany the film's dazzling highlight. And while Williams occasionally flirts with self-plagiarism (with inevitable variants of his Hook and Star Wars themes), this is nevertheless a richly regal score that brilliantly evokes the mystery and magic of Harry Potter's world. --Jeff Shannon

Amazingness.. July 10, 2010 Man527 You will not be let down from this CD. It's exactly what I had been looking for!
I'm embarrassed to say how much I enjoy this CD. April 1, 2010 Fahtimah (Richmond, VA USA) I've enjoyed the music from these movies from the first time I went, but this CD was the collection that really summed up the feeling. At my age (no, I'm not telling)I'm almost embarrassed to admit I go to Harry Potter movies, but I find I can just get lost in the stories, and remember the lure of magic when I was a child.
Start with this one and see if you want to go further.
Lovely soundtrack! February 1, 2010 yerosmyhero (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a big fan of Harry Potter (as are most of us :) ) I also love instrumental music. This CD has both the great themes of HP along with beautiful instrumentals. I would recomend for any HP fan or any instrumental fan!
Another Williams masterpiece January 22, 2010 D. J. Nardi (Washington, DC) John Williams essentially made the world of Harry Potter wizards with this soundtrack. The classic introduction and Harry Potter themes are continued throughout the series. It's just too bad Williams couldn't do the rest of the movies.
Potter Mood Music September 26, 2009 J. C. Manning 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having seen all Harry Potter movies thru the Half Blood Prince, I decided it was time to read the books. Several had been given to me as gifts and others I purchased new recently from Amazon. I loved several of the movie music themes, especially the well-recognized Hedwig's Theme. The original motion picture soundtrack CD is wonderful mood music to play in the background while reading Harry Potter books. I've read Books one thru seven and Beedle the Bard in a little over a month's time. Kept me out of trouble - and I'm a "Senior Citizen." The music is beautiful but, then, anything John Williams does usually is, e.g. Star Wars, etc.
