1 out of 5 stars Complete Waste of Money   January 29, 2010

I had bought this game, hoping it would be like the first 4. (I loved the game, and never noticed any of the problems mentioned. Haven't played it since it came out though)

This recent one though was...horrible. You basically run around doing pointless chores, you have no camera control, and the health bar is gone. I found nothing that I liked and the game simply infuriated me. The controls are awful, Harry looked drunk every time I tried to move him, and I couldn't get him to run in a straight line. The Attempts at casting spells were simply very hard to do as well. I really miss the previous games versions of simply pointing the wand at the object and viola, the spell is cast. And nothing held interest for me. I plan on just giving this game away. Perhaps the new one will be better .... but, I highly doubt I shall buy it after this....attempt at a game.

This game was clearly not made with a computer in mind. What's the point of pretty graphics when the game fails on catastrophic levels?

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good   September 6, 2009
Lord Voldemort
Well I think it's OK. The beginning of the game is a bit unrealistic because it seems a bit rushed. Harry spends virtually no time at the Dursleys, and when he gets to Sirius's house, all he does is clean. I haven't played GoF because the reviews for that were terrible, but I think that out of HP games 1,2,3 and 5, this is the best. The graphics are pretty impressive, and EA wasn't lying when they said it was just like the movie: it loyally sticks to the movie's plot pretty much the whole time. The Marauder's Map is good for finding people and places. When you select a place or a person, you just press Enter/Return and when you exit from the map there'll be footsteps guiding you to the place you want to go to. I'm not impressed with Ron and Hermione. When you're not performing a spell with them (and you almost never do that) they pretty much just stand around, follow you and say useless stuff when you try to talk to them. Running around the Hogwarts campus as much as you do in the game can get a bit tedious. When you're trying to get members of the DA into the Room of Requirement, you almost always have to do something for the member you're inviting before they'll come, which can get extremely annoying after you've done a few tasks (Tip: do Luna's task last. It'll save you a lot of time). The representation of the status of your progress on the main menu is poor, because as it turns out, cut scenes count as significant progress, especially when you escape to the Ministry of Magic to find Sirius. Fighting as Sirius or Dumbledore at the Ministry is total guesswork. The spells they use are more advanced, and the game doesn't specify what they do. The game becomes boring after you finish at the Ministry. When you get back to school, you start out by searching for the things that have been stolen from Luna during the year. I had a lot of trouble with that and didn't think it was fun. If you're into the series then buy it and have fun with it, but I personally think that all the HP games aren't first class.

I think this is, by far, the best of the Harry Potter computer games. You get to cast your own spells by various mouse movements and there is very much exploring to be done. There are set tasks, but at the same time, you get to roam around and see all of Hogwarts, which was highly limited in the extremely frustrating Goblet of Fire game. I love it, my brother loves it, and it makes for great fun. I would say the only frustrating part is when Moaning Myrtle randomly keeps popping up, but it's easy to skip over those parts and fully enjoy the game.

I love the graphics on this game and how you get scenes from the movie. I also love that you get to either play Fred or George and Dumbledore. It's an awesome game all around.
